Elizabeth - My family's research into its ancestry has taken us back to a Captain (as opposed to a Colonel) John Jacob, who we believe to have been born in 1629 in Dover, Kent, England, the son of a gentleman farmer. (This we have not been able to verify absolutely yet.)

Unfortunately, we have not been able to determine exactly when (or why) he immigrated to the colonies. Nor do we know which port / area at which he first arrived in the "new" world.

Our research does tell us that he married Anne Cheney in 1681 in Anne Arundel Co., MD. If we've got the dates correct, he lived until 1726 (I'm a little skeptical -- 97 sounds like quite an advanced age for the time). He and Anne had 10 children (!) all born in Anne Arundel Co., MD (All Hallows Parish):

Charity (b. about 1682) ; Elizabeth (b. 1683) ; Joseph (b. 1685) ; John, Jr. (b. 1686) ; Benjamin (b. 1688) ;
Anne (b. 1692) ; Samuel (b. 1695) ; Richard (b. 1697) ; Thomas (b. 1698) ; Susannah (b. 1716).

Our info tells us we are descended from Joseph, their 3rd child/1st son, who married Elizabeth Joanes in 1706 (All Hallows Parish, Anne Arundel, MD).

Next up is Joseph & Elizabeth's 2nd child/son, Benjamin (b. 1710 same location) who married Anne Hope in 1732 (Westminter Parish, Anne Arundel Co., MD). This is the first time we saw the addition of a "s" to the Jacobs name. (Sometimes Benjamin is referred to as Benjamin Jacob in the records; sometimes Benjamin Jacobs.)

Benjamin and Anne's 2nd (?) child/son, William (b. 1735 same location) married Elizabeth Drollinger (some records say Trollinger) in 1775 (Caroline, MD). Their 4th child/son, Gabriel (b. 1781 Philadelphia, PA) married Margaret Jackson in 1805 (George's Creek V, Allegany, MD).

Gabriel and Margaret's 3rd son (7th child out of 12 !), Enos (b. 1818 Allegany, MD), married Rachel Barnes in 1840 (Allegany, MD). Enos and Rachel must have headed west to Maryland Township, IL (now Adeline, IL) almost immediately after they were married. We don't have a verified place of birth for their 1st child, Francis (Frank), born in 1841, but we know that their 2nd child, Lavinia, was born in IL in 1843.

I am descended from their 8th child (out of 11 !), Foneticus, who was born in 1855 in Maryland Twnshp, IL. Foneticus married Mina Avery in 1878; their 3rd child/1st son, another Enos, was born in 1882 in the same location. this Enos married Josephine Finkboner in 1903 (smae location); their first child/son was my grandfather, Willis, who was born in 1906 (same loc); he married Mildren Kuntzelman in 1928. My father, their 1st child/son, born in 1931 in the same location, was also named Enos (he passed away in 1986).

Enos and Rachel, Foneticus and Mina, Enos and Josphine, Willis and Mildred, and my dad are all buried in a small rural cemetery in Adeline, IL.

You may find it interesting to note that there are at least 6 women (wives and daughters) in this family line whose given names are Elizabeth. My middle name is Elizabeth, as is one of my niece's.

If you feel that our family's John Jacob is the same individual as the John Jacob you are looking for info on, please post a follow-up to this message. I have additional info which I would gladly share with you (children's names, places/dates of births and deaths, etc.) I would also be very interested in any information you may have, even (or especially) if your information is different than mine.

If anyone else reads this posting and has information they can share on this branch of the Jacob(s) family, I would be grateful if you would post a follow-up. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks!
