Help is on the way! My wife's mother is a direct descendant of Jacob and Julia Ann Jacobe. They arrived in this country in 1852 from Hesse, Germany. He served in the 61st New York Infantry regiment in 1861/62, was discharged, then reenlisted in the 185th NY in 1864. On March 29, 1865, he was wounded at the Battle of Lewis Farm on the Quaker Road near Petersburg while serving under Brigadier General Joshua Chamberlain. He was convalescing in the Lincoln Hospital in Washington, D.C. in April when President Lincoln was shot a few blocks away. Jacob died in Fabius, New York on October 24, 1900, and Julia passed away May 2, 1910, I believe.
Julia's maiden name was Simmons or Seamen or Siemans, depending on who was recording her words that day. She also lists her given name as "Juley An" and "Julia Ann." According to her civil war widow's pension testimonial, she and Jacob were married on March 1, 1846, by a Wesleyan clergyman named Rev Potter Hensler in "Bellishein" or "Ballshrine" or "Bellschein" Germany. In 1898, they had five living children: Elizabeth, Christina, Mary, John and George. My wife's great grandfather was John, and there are several Jacob Jacobe descendant's in the area. I am in the process of doing the Family Tree Maker record on the Jacobe family and have quite a few contacts and more information I will share. Where did you get your information?
