Dear Mrs. Tucker,
First, God bless you! I am also a descendant of the Jacobes. My grandmother is Mildred Rainbow daughter of Samuel Joseph Rainbow and Lella Maria Albro. Samuel Joseph Rainbow's father was Charles Rainbow and his mother was Elizabeth Jacobe. Elizabeth, the daughter of Jacob and Julia.
I have been slowly tracking down this information for the past two years. I have only recently discovered a researcher at the National Archives who has helped me get military records. Most of what I know comes of stories from my grandmother, Mildred Rainbow.
I researched some old topographic maps of der Hessen staat during that time period. I found that the city Belstein is not likely the city of concern, as it lies north as a suburb(currently) of Wurtemburg. In 1848~1850 time frame portions of the staat of Rhine-Pfalz was absorbed into the staat of Hessen. At that time(or shortly before) the town of Pfalzheim was changed to Belsheim. What makes this interesting is that Rhine-Pfalz was a principality of the Prussian crown. According to the stories I know, Prince Wilhelm confiscated the home, land and personal property of the Jacobes. Which subsequently resulted in their emigration. I continue to seek more.
Were you aware that one child of Jacob and Julia was "buried at sea", I don't know the name.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
