Hello Virginia,
You apparently have information to make the connection to Wittersdorf. The information that I found in this country left some question. The only solid data was the date of birth.
In the Ellis Island records, Alphonse Jacober is listed as Glfhook Jacober.Date of Arrival: Jun 07, 1902.Final destination:Oklahoma City. The manifest states he was to join his sister. The sister's name and address are difficult to understand.
Alfonse Jacober registered for the draft on 12 Sep 1918.Serial No. 1263, Order No. A 916.Another number on the form is 31-9-15-C.Local Board No. 15.He was a carpenter, not employed.Living at 1887 Vyse Ave, Bronx.Born 5 Dec 1878.Naturalized citizen.Wife was Anna.
Death record:Died October 17, 1918 in Bronx, NY.The birth date and place of birth are close to correct, but there are other items that are not, such as father's name.Alfonse Jacober was a carpenter and lived in an apartment on 1887 Vyse Ave, Bronx. He died of influenza pneumonia. He was in the USA for 16 years, always in the City of New York.[This could mean that he was in Oklahoma for a very short time or he never told his wife about Oklahoma.]
He was buried at St. Raymond Cemetery.
Peter Alphonsius Jacober was born December 05, 1878 in Wittersdorf, Germany (now France).Father was Augustin Jacober, born April 27, 1847, in Wittersdorf, Haut-Rhin, France.Mother was Catherine Gast, born September 12, 1844, in Ligsdorf, Haut-Rhin, France.
Augustin’s father was Joseph Jacober, born January 06, 1819, in Wittersdorf. This is the same Joseph Jacober that Dominique Jacober wrote about.
Are you looking for any more information on the Jacober's?
Sincerely,
Bill Moritz
