On May 28, 2005, Gladys Jansma died at the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center at the age of 98 years, 6 months, and 20 days. Gladys was united in marriage to Gerrit Jansma on September 24, 1940. To this union four children were born; David Roy who died in infancy, Judith, Mavis and Carol. She also gained four teenage sons, Marvin, John, Thornton, and Gerrit Jr. The family farmed in the Westbrook Walnut Grove area. In 1957 the couple moved into Westbrook. Gladys worked at the Westbrook Hospital for many years and was active in the Hospital Auxiliary. She also enjoyed gardening. Gladys was active in her church where she loved to teach Adult Bible Study and well as youth groups. In her later years her recollection of every day events were shadowed, but her recall of scripture and hymns were always with her. Funeral Services will be Wednesday June 1, 2005 10:30 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook. Rev. David Johnson and Rev. Rodney Benson officiating and Jean Nantkes will be the organist. Pianist is Carolyn VanLoh with David VanLoh song leader. Burial will be in the Westbrook cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 5 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the Westbrook Funeral Home and continue at the church one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Westbrook Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. She is survived by her children: Judith (George) Grimm of Anchorage, Alaska, Mavis Jansma of Westbrook, Carol (Charles) Hansen of Larimore, ND, step-son, John Charles Jansma of Strongsville, Ohio; daughters-in-law, Emily Jansma of Spokane, WA and Barbara Jansma of Westbrook, 28 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, husband in 1983, 3 brothers, l sister, 3 step-sons, 1 grandson, 2 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter.
