I have an ancestor named David Jacus who was born 23rd or 29th Sep 1809 in New Fairfield, CT, lived in Bridgewater in 1832 to 1836. He was first married to (Phoebe) Caroline Cable and produced at least a son, Willis Charles Jacus who located in Buffalo, NY. David lived in Chatham in Columbia County, NY in 1840. David was later married to an Emily Hill Taylor 25 Dec. 1850 in New Fairfield, CT. He lived in Washington, CT in Litchfield County in 1860, 1870, and 1880. David died 02 Dec 1881 and is buried in New Preston Cemetery, CT.
There is a dearth of people named "Jacus" at that time, and I find no correlating immigrations. However, there was a Joseph Jacus in Essex County, Chesterfield,NY in 1840 and 1850 who first was listed in Quaker records as Joseph "Jaycox," born 25 Dec 1753 and after his death on 25 May 1853, his name is "Jacus" on his tombstone in Evergreen Cemetery, Village of Keeseville, Town of AuSable, Clinton County, NY. Joseph's wife was Phebe b. 1762 and died 10 Oct 1832, buried with her husband.
Have you run across David Jacus? Is he connected to your line somehow under the Jacox name? Do you know who has researched Joseph Jaycox/Jacus's lineage? Thank you for your assistance weaver1988@msn.com
