John and Martha JACKMAN/JAKEMAN of Stratton Audley, Oxon
Posted by: Phil Jackman (ID *****1976) Date: September 15, 2005 at 07:52:08
  of 133

John JACKMAN/JAKEMAN married Martha SMITH in Buckingham in 1705. He was from Stratton Audley, Oxon. Owing to the loss of parish registers through neglect, no parish records for Stratton Audley exist before 1695. I wonder who his parents were?? There were JACKMANs/JAKEMANs in SA back into the beginning of the 16th century but no links for him.
Another mystery is that John and Martha had a number of children whose baptisms were recorded in SA from 1705 to 1721. There was a gap between the first child in 1705 and the next record in January 1713/14. I am guessing that they were elsewhere and returned to take over the estate when John's father died. (There was a burial for Edward JAKEMAN in March 1713/14). Despite diligent but not exhaustive search in Bucks, Oxon and Northants I have not found John and Martha during the gap years.
Would anyone have any ideas?
