Louis Jalbert was born November 1, 1849 at Portland, Maine. As a young man he moved to Quebec, Canada where he became a steam engineer. There he met and married Elizabeth Paladeau in July 1870. In 1872, Louis and Elizabeth moved to Grandin, N.D., Dakota Territory, and lived on a farm east of Grandin. At that time, the railroad had not been built, so the settlers traveled by foot to Fargo for supplies until they could afford a team of oxen and wagon. When the villiage of Quincy was established, their supplies came by boat up the Red River to Grandin from Fargo. Louis died in February, 1925. His wife proceded him in death in 1921.
They had ten children: William, John, George, Arthur, fred, Charles, Arnold, Annie (Mrs. John Weller), Jennie (Mrs. Albert Elleat), and Agnes (Mrs. Fred Winterquist).
I hope this info helps alot. I found it in a annual book about Regent,N.D. and the people in the areas. STACY
