The standardized spelling for this name is Gerbert. This covers 25 variants. If you check PRDH, you will find that you will get 70 hits on Gerbert for the period up to 1799, almost all in combination with Fontaine. I'm trying to track down a maternal line, a Julie Jalbert who married Charles Bernier in 1810 - too late to be listed in PRDH, and I don't have any information about who her parents were.
