Jara Family Genealogy Forum

Hi George. I think I may be related through the Jara family. My Jara family arrived in America sometime before 1860 from Chili. They consisted of Sebastiano, Lorenzo and Maria. What follows is what I discovered on the family and I hope you have more! I'd love to learn more about Maria, if this is also your Maria. Thanks!
1. Sebastino was born in Chile in 1830 and married a woman named Josefa, who was born in California in March 1840. They were married in 1860. In the 1900 census, the family is found living with all but one of their children in Tulare, San Joaquin County, California. Sebastino was working as a farmer. Children: (1) James Jara, b. Sep 1860; (2) Sebastino Jara, Jr., b. Sep 1865; (3) Joseph Mercedas Jara, b. March 1870; (4) Eusebio Jara, b. 1871; (5) Alice Louisa Jara, b. 1873; (6) Salvador Jara, b. Jul 1874.
2. Lorenzo Jara was born in Chile in 1834. Lorenzo immigrated to the United States with his brother Sebastino and sister Maria sometime before 1860. They settled in Spanishtown, California, which is now known as Half Moon Bay, where they met and married their wives. Lorenzo married his wife, Edwarda, about 1868. She was born in California in 1850 and was of Mexican descent. Her father was born in Mexico and her mother was a native of California. The only record discovered of Lorenzo and his brother was in the 1880 census, where they were living in Spanishtown. By then, they had fairly large families, but what happened to them after this time is currently a mystery. Lorenzo was working as a huckster and Sebastino was a farmer. There is no record of what happened to Maria.
