Austin Wheeler Smith says "His entire life was spent in Wilson County, near Lebanon.He was a school teacher and farmer.In 1836-37 he served in the Seminole Indian War, 2nd Regiment, Ironsdale's Tennessee Mounted Volunteers.He was a captain in the Confederate Army during the War Between the States.He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge."
