andre jarret dit beaureagard is the original ancestor of many beauregard lines in north america today (although not the only ancestor of beauregards as it was a "dit" name also adopted by other families)
further andre had a half brother francois who also came to canada and founded a family (althouh i do not think they used the name beauregard....and he is the ancestor of the famous madeleine of vercheres who led the defense of her fathers fort against rampaging Iroquois).
back to andre.
if you are a descendant of him be aware that he met a fairly dramatic end.
he was captured by iroquois raiders when he was in his 50's
and never seen again. this occurred at vercheres (his half brothers land) on 22 june, 1691. it is likely he was taken alive because his body was never found.
given these facts he was probably taken to some iroquois town in upstate NY and killed by torture.
many sources claim he came to canada as a carignon-salieres regiment officer, but there is a growing faction which dispute this claim.
i do not pretend to know what the truth is regarding this
matter. time and patient research will likely give us the answer.
i am a descendant of him in 6 or 7 lines and it is a toss-up between Michel Messier and Andre Jarret who is my "commonest" ancestor.
