Well, I'm so glad you saw my message. My Great Grandmother's brother, Cortes Wilbur Hull, married Henrietta Jaycox, on May 12, 1874. She is the daughter of Henry. In the 1870 Leslie, MI census Henry is married to a Clarissa & Henrietta is 17 or 19 (can't read it well) & there is a brother ? 10, James. I believe Clarissa is a second wife, also.
Marian Tainter & Richard Godfrey witnessed the marriage of Austin Hamilton & Sarah Horth/Harth. Sarah is the sister of Margarette Harth/Horth. Margarette married Marcus Jaycox of Onondaga, MI. And, Henry & Sophia Jaycox of Leslie, MI witnessed Marcus' marriage in 1856.
Marian Tainter is my Great Aunt (she died in 1870) & her brother married Alice Eliza Hull, sister of Cortes, who married Henrietta Jaycox, daughter of Henry. I believe Henry & Sophia are married in the 1856 record, so Sophia appears to be the mother of Henrietta. I am curious if Sophia Jaycox' maiden name is Godfrey? I believe that Polly Godfrey who married Daniel Tainter in Washtenaw County, MI on May 29, 1832 & Sophia Jaycox are sisters or cousins.
I have been curious about the Jaycox, Hull, Jefferds, Godfrey & Tainter families. They seem very entwined.
Also, in the 1870 Leslie Census, beneath the Jaycox family are the Jefferds, Nathan & Louisa (Louisa is the sister of Daniel Augustus Tainter & Marian Tainter, daughter of Polly Godfrey & Daniel Tainter).
I have an old photograph, from 1886, of Henrietta (Jaycox) & Cortes Hull. Just the 2 of them. I have been looking for descendants, but I am beginning to believe there are none.
I am looking for several bits of inf.
Who are Polly Godfrey Tainter's parents?
Is Sophia Jaycox a Godfrey?
Is Sophia the mother of Henrietta Jaycox Hull?
Is Richard Godfrey a relation to Sophia or Polly? How did he know Marian Tainter & witness the wedding of Marcus Jaycox sister-in-law?
Did the Tainter, Godfrey, Hull, Jefferds & Jaycox families all travel together from NY to MI or just by happenstance all live & know one another in MI?
Polly Godfrey married Daniel Tainter on May 29th, 1832 in Washtenaw County, MI.
Henry & Sophia Jaycox witnessed a marriage of Marcus Jaycox in 1856.
Marian Tainter & Richard Godfrey witnessed the marriage of Marcus Jaycox sister-in-law, Sarah Horth in 1858.
Daniel Tainter (son of Polly & Dan) married Alice Eliza Hull in Leslie, MI on Dec. 10, 1865. Her brother, Cortes Hull, married Henrietta Jaycox. The Hulls live in Onondaga & Cortes is home & 20, in 1870 & the Jaycox live in Leslie near the Jefferds (Louisa Jefferds is daughter of Dan & Polly Tainter & sister of Marian & Daniel Tainter).
Cortes Hull married Henrietta Jaycox on May 12, 1874.
All the families are in close proximity in the 1870 Census, i.e. the Hulls & Jaycox family & Tainters. The Jefferds are neighbors of the Jacox (spelled w/o y in 1870) in Leslie. Hulls neighbors of Tainters. And, there are many Godfreys.
These are my unanswered questions. Sorry this is so lengthy, but I wanted to get all the known facts gathered & I'm just home from work & a little tired, but quite interested in finding out if anyone knows the answer to any of these questions.
Thanks for any light you might shed. Are you related to the Jaycox family? Would you like a copy of Henrietta Jaycox Hull & Cortes Hull photograph?
