I found Henry and Sophia Jacox in the 1860 MI census, Ingham County, Leslie Twp., p 165 and there are two Godfrey people living with them, and Richard Godfrey is living two households away. The census gives

Household 1275, Family 1288
R. Godfrey, age 30, b NY
R.A., age 33, b NH -- this must be a first wife as she is older than the Harriet E. listed in the 1900 census
L. Aldrich, female, age 60, b NH (is this the wife's mother)
E.C. Aldrich (male), age 22, b NH

Household 1277, Family 1290
H.H. Jacox, age 35, b OH
S. Jacox, age 32, b NY
H. Jacox, female, age 10, b OH
W. Jacox, male (this must be James W.), age 7, b Michigan
L. Godfrey, male, age 20, b MI (I am unsure of his initial, it might be something else)
D. or P. Godfrey, female, age 15, b MI

This confirms Sophia as the mother of both children and the likelihood that she was a Godfrey.

Household 1280, Family 1293
D. Jefferds, age 62, b NY
R. Jefferds, female, age 50, b NY
F. Bergen, male, age 16, farmhand, b NY
L. Jefferds, male, age 59, b NY
M. Jefferds, female, age 35, b NY
G.M. Jefferds, male, age 21, b NY
S.M. Jefferds, female, age 18, b MI
M.L. Jefferds, male, age 11, b MI
C.H. Jefferds, male, age 8, b MI
F.R. Jefferds, male, age 3 or 5, b MI

Given the fact that Polly Godfrey married Daniel Tainter in 1832, I'm speculating that she was probably an aunt of Richard and/or Sophia. What the relationship was between Richard and Sophia is unknown, but they were both born in NY, and I suspect that Marcus and Henry Jacox are from a NY Jacox line that settled in NE Ohio for a period of time before moving on to Michigan.
