William Jaycox b. bef. 1785 Canada or New York

I have William Jaycox, who married Sarah Williams, in my line.
Every place I look whether it be a publication or personal family trees, I find that William was born in Canada.
Since he died before 1850, he could not tell us through the census exactly where he was born.
The 1880 census was the first census to ask a person where their parents were born.
I looked up all of William & Sarah's children who were still alive in 1880. Out of their 9 children 6 were still living in 1880. They were Robert, Mary Ann, William, Stephen N., Lovina and Lydia.
Every single one of them stated that their father was born in New York.
With this new information, it may shed some light on who William's parents were.
