Thursday, July l6, l925

RENAN E. LONG was born near Leon, Iowa, March 2, l893, and passed away from this life, June 28, l925, in Detroit, Michigan. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan. MR. LONG lived on a farm until ten years of age, and in l903 moved with his mother to Leon, Iowa, where he attended the grade schools until in December l9l0, he went to Chicago where he lived with his brothers for a time and made a start in life for himself, always willing to do his best at whatever he undertook. He was in the Carson Pirie Store in Chicago for some time; later he spent one summer in Montana with his mother, brother and sister; then went to Los Angeles where he spent about one and one-half years, and loved the warm sunny climate of that place. Returning to Michigan, he became connected with the insurance work with his brother, R.J. LONG. For a time he was on the farm of his childhood home, but again took up the insurance work, in which business he continued up to the time of his
tragic accident about 5:00 in the afternoon on June 27th, when he was very seriously burned in a gasoline explosion, causing his death on Sunday, June 28th, about l2:00 noon. He was taken to a hospital and had every care that skilled physicians and nurses could give him. He was very brave and smiled through his suffering, telling his loved ones not to worry, the he would be alright, and was cheerful to the last.

MR. LONG was united in marriage to LILLIAN M. JENKINSON, December l9, l9l6, in Detroit, Michigan, at the home of his brother, R.J. LONG, by Rev. D.I. Sutherland. They were very happy with each other, and he leaves to mourn his untimely death his devoted wife and her dear mother, sisters and brothers, who all loved him as their own; his own mother, MRS. E.E. LONG, of Leon, Iowa; three brothers, LORNE L. LONG, of McRae, Montana; J.G. LONG, of Leon, Iowa; R.J. LONG, of Detroit, Michigan; and a foster sister, AUDREY WILLIAMS, who came from Minneapolis, Minnesota to see the dear one again before he was laid to rest. He leaves many other relatives who mourn his death, and a host of friends who held him in high esteem and were devoted to him for his good qualities, many of whom were developed from his association in business through his fair dealings and reliability, which caused many to depend upon him. He loved his home and friends, and through his thoughtfulness was always making someone comfortable, or happy. We will all cherish sweet memories of his life.

The funeral was held in the home and was conducted by the minister who united them in marriage. The rooms were filled with loving and devoted relatives and friends, and the floral offerings were many and beautiful.
