I'm trying to think of another example of a female in colonial Virginia having a family surname as a middle name.It just wasn't done.
It could very well be that the Jett-Newman marriage record is from a family Bible.The problem with Bible records is that people bought a Bible in 1950 and copied stuff from hearsay accounts written in 1930 based on several generations of oral history.Without some source for the marriage or sex-change operation, I'll stick with the kid being a guy named William.
