It's been said that Peter Jett b. 1626 in England who m. Mary Triplett is the father of all natural born Jett males in America. I am aware there was more than one Jett in Virginia. I am looking for a ghost. James b. ca 1773 or before. He had a son John and a daughter Alice/Alcey/Allie. John's son was William.
According to Nellie Norman' s book, Alice Jett m. Courtney Norman in 1793 in Culpeper. I think I read they were married by a Baptist minister. Census indicates this family had three children before 1800 and three after they moved to Knox TN. One of the sons born here was Harvey (?) Jett Norman. There were Jett's living here and a Jett Cemetery that was eventually paved over.
Courtney and his wife had a daughter Alice/Alcey/Allie Norman who married William Jett, the son of John. In James Jett's Will he calls Courtney his "son-in-law." John was living with William and his wife when he died in 1853. Williiam and his wife had four children. John is the only son.
Mother and daughter died. Courtney and William married second. William married a Weber and had more children. He is mentioned in the Weber family bible. Courtney disappeared.
I've been chasing this family for a lot of years. I believe Courtney and his wife had a son Benjamin in the fall of 1794 about 11 months after they married. I believe he went to Tennessee and left when he was older. He next appears in Licking County, Ohio Census in 1820. and in Muskingum County where he married, had children and died ca 1845. I do not remember all the names of his children but Susanannah, Simeon, Thomas, Amos and Artileus come to mind.
James, John and William afre popular names in this family. In Culpeper Jett, Browning, Triplett and Norman were related by blood and marriage. To this day Courtney Norman disappered as easily as he appeared which makes me think he may be a broken branch. I've tried for years to find the match. The closest I come is to Jett -- if I am correct.
Comments ? I need a fresh perspective.
