DEATH by FALLING INTO a SHAFT -- Sonora 'Democrat'
A young man named William JEWELL, was drowned at Brown's Flat on Wednesday evening last, by falling into a mining shaft, which was filled with water by the recent rain. He had gone out in the early part of the evening to return some books which he had been reading, belonging to a neighbor, and his not returning to his cabin gave no uneasiness to his partners, as the weather was very inclement, and they naturally concluded he had been prevailed upon to stay all night. His hat was discovered the next morning on the edge of the shaft, from which, soon after, his body was recovered. His remains were attended to the grave by a large concourse of friends.
