Hello Robert,
Jean Jolin's land on Ile d'Orléans was extending from the North Shore to the South shore at the eastern point of the Ile d'Orléans. It was the 5th piece of land from the tip of the island according to the map drawn by Gedeon de Catalogne in 1709. His neighbours were Pierre Lepage to the East and Esprit Carbonneau towards the West.
Pursuant to the census of June 11, 1714, Jean Jolin's land had a 3 acres wide front, with house, barn, stable and 50 acres of arable land (size of timberland unknown). The census of August 25, 1725, reveals no changes.
The present day address is:844 route d'Argentenay, in the parish of St-François, and the present day lot number is 181-18.
Previous owners of this land were Jacques Bluteau, followed by Simon Chamberland (second husband of Marie Boisleau, Jean Jolin was her third husband).Jean Jolin owned that land until his death.
If you ever visit Ile d'Orléans, in the old presbytery of the parish of Ste-Famille, there is a large model of the island showing the farm boundaries with the name of each owner inscribed.
Nicole
