I have John Jolliff(b. 1642 and came to VA) son's as Joseph who had a son James (1719). James married Sarah?? in 1749. They had a son James Abner who married Elizabeth Norris. Now there are many Jameses and Johns and Richards and Williams in this family. Joseph also had son, William, who had another James(my ancestor) born in 1720. So there were 2 grandsons of Joseph and Ruth named James. Plus there were at least 2 other sons of Joseph. There is several books on Jolliff(e)s including an HISTORICAL ACCOUNT OF THE JOLLIFFE FAMILY 1893 and Oliver P. Jolliff's GENEALOGY OF THE JOLLFF FAMILY 1760 to 1878. Land records and census records may help you also. I think what I have is accurate.I don't know if this helps you or not.
