My husband is a direct decendant of Richard, James Abner,James, James Richard, Oscar William, and Geneva Rose. We have several pages of handwritten notes passed down to his mother, Geneva. They were first written in 1917 by cousin Frank H. Rhea to James Richard.

These notes say the following: "Richard Jolliff and his brother James came across the water from England in the seventeeth century. They landed in Virgina and lived there for a while and then moved to New Jersey and settled in Essex Co. New Jersey in the early colonial days. I was told they had a sister that came with them that was married to an Allen. She had a son named Benjamin Allen."

There are many wonderful stories of war experiences, and of every day life.

I have not been able to document Col James Jolliff's war service. When and how did he become a Col?

Would love to hear from someone. Glad to share what information we have, which is mainly from these pages.
