In the name of God amen, I James Jopling Senr, of the county of Albemarle being weak in body but of sond mind and disposing memory for which I thank god and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous to dispose of all such worldly estate as it has pleased God to bless me with, I give and bequeath the same in manner following that is to say,
1st. I give to my Daughter Sally Carrell the following tract or parcel of land & bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at a corner on a small white oak, at the mouth of a branch on the west side of green creek running thence up said branch to a spring, thence the same course, a straight new chopped line to a small white oak in John S. Farrar's line marked as a corner, thence with s'd Farrar's line to Rockfish river, thence down s'd river to the mouth of Green Creek, thence up s'd creek to the beginning, to her and her heirs forever.
2nd.I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Jopling the following parcel of land, bounded as follows to wit:Beginning at a corner on a maple tree at the mouth of a branch on the east side ofGreen Creek running thence up s'd branch to a white oad tree marked as a corner in John Halls line, thence with s'd Halls line to Rockfish River, thence up s'd river to the mouth of Green Creek, thence up said creek to the beginning, to him & his heirs forever.
3rd, I give and bequeath to my daughter Jerusha Thomas the following tract of land bounded as follows to wit: Beginning at a corner on a spanish oad by the old mill road in John Halls line, running thence with road to a corner on a small scrubby white oak, thence a northern direction to a corner on a willow tree on the long branch thence up said branch with the meanderings thereof to a corner on a small sycamore bush, thence an eastern corner a new chopped line to a corner on pointers on a small maple, dogwood and hickory in John Halls line, thence with said Halls line to the beginning to her and her heirs forever.
4th.I give to my daughter Nancy Ward the following tract of land bounded as follows to wit: Beginning at a corner on a dogwood in John Halls line running thence a new chopped line to a corner on pointers on two small pines and a hickory in William Baileys line, thence with said Bailey line to a corner on a red oak between s'd Bailey and John Hall, thence with said Halls line to a corner on pointers on three white oaks, thence with said Halls line to the beginning to her and her heirs forever, also I give to my said daughter Nancy on Negro woman named Milly and her child together with all her increase to her and her heirs forever.
5th.It is my will and desire that the residue of my land not already devised or conveyed by deed, together with all my stock of every description, household and kitchen furniture & plantation tools, also all the crop of every kind which may be on hand at the time of my death, be equally divided between my two daughters Patsey and Judy Jopling and their heirs forever.
6th.I have given to my son James Jopling his portion of land for which I have made him a deed.
7th.I give to my daughter Elizabeth Livingston two Negro boys named Watt and Will to her and her heirs forever.
8th. I give to my daughter Patsey Jopling one Negro woman named Nan and her child Nathan together with all her increase to her and her heirs forever.
9th I give to my daughter Judy Jopling one Negro girl named Nell and her increase to her and her heirs forever.
10th.I give to my grandson James Jopling ( son of Joseph Jopling) one Negro boy named Jack to him and his heirs forever.
11th. I desire that Hack, an old Negro man shall have the privilege of choosing with which of my children he will live.
12th.I do not know of any debts that are due from me, but should it happen that any should hereafter appear, then it is my desire that each of mychildren aforesaid shall contribute equally to the payment of such debt or debts, as also towards paying my funeral expenses.I desire each of my aforesaid children shall bear their equal proportion.
13th.All the residue of my estate whatsoever not heretofore disposed of together with all the debts that may be due me, I desire to be equally divided among my children aforesaid and their heirs forever.
And lastley I do hereby constitute and appoint my friend Jesse Jopling executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other or former will or testaments by me heretofore made.
