This has been quite the day in reading all this Jopling,Allen, Nevil info.My first reading of the Joplings was through my paternal grandmother's family. She descends from the Farrar family of Albemarle Co/Amherst Co., VA that went into Person,Caswell, and Chatham Co., NC.One of the ancestral aunts, Catherine Farrar married in Amherst to Ralph Jopling. Then just the other day, I discover that my grandfather descends from Thomas Jopling and Hannah Freeman of Amherst through their daughter who maried Samuel Allen and had son Jesse Allen who married Nancy Walker and went into DeKalb Co., TN.Their daughter Mary Ann Allen married Dr. George Eastham whose daughter Sarah Eastham married James Monroe Fite. These were my grandfather's great grandparents!!
Then, I saw that Samuel Allen was the son of John Allen and Betheniah Nevil.I don't know how Betheniah fits into the Nevils, but my mother is descended from James Nevil of Albemarle Co., VA through his daughter Johanna Nevil who married James Brown.Their son John Brown settled in Campbell/Pittsylvania Co., VA.His daughter Lucy Brown, b. sometime in the 1770's, married Richie Pitts and would become the grandmother of William C. Pitts of Pittsylvania Co., VA, Weakley Co., TN, and Izard Co.,Ark, my mother's great grandfather. So you see, somehow or other, my parents are both descendants of the Nevils and my father's parents share Jopling cousins, all unawares. This is going to make interesting reading when I put it in my information. My paternal grandfather and my maternal grandmother are both Nevil descendants, and my paternal grandmother is related to the Joplings by marriage through her Farrars.I think that about summarizes it.This is the first time in genealogy after all these years that I have found so many ties between my parents' families, not to mention at least one common link now.
Looking forward to hearing from you about this.
Steve
