Nathaniel Turney was really a Journey
With the help of Cleo M. Higgins Alward, I can finally put aside some Turneys I have been trying to figure out for a long time.
This is what I had on Nathaniel Turney:
1799 in Garrard Co KY married to Elizabeth Pope
1803 Overton Co Tennessee petition - Nathaniel Turney and
Peter Turney - Peter is really a Turney
1805chain carrier on survey done in Cumberland Co Kentucky
I had a John Turney on land surveys in Cumberland Co KY from 8/11/1799 to 11/1/1812, with about 1800 a William Turney and then Nathaniel in 5/25/1805....
but then I lost them....well now I know why, because they were not Turneys but Journeys.
The interesting thing is, the Turneys were also in St Clair Co Illinois and Fayette Co Illinois and other parts of Illinois.
The John Turney in Fayette Co Illinois was married to Nancy Carter, he arrived in Ill from KY 1818, he had two sons:
Henry Turney who married 1835 Matilda Reavis, and a son John Jr.
So you might want to watch out for Turneys......I am so happy to finally know who the heck this John and Nathaniel were and that they were not Turneys.
Now a couple of other things - the Turneys out of TN also went to Alabama and there is an extra Turney down there beginning with William.
In Galena Illinois is the home of John Turney (said to be born in TN) who we cannot place. He was a lawyer, author, etc.His son William also built a mansion but in Springfield Illinois....
The James Turney who was Attorney General of Illinois is a Turney - he was the s/o Peter Turney Jr who died 1804 Dixon Springs, TN.James had two daughters we have been able to find, one married Jacob Fry, the other to an English....grand-daughter married a Hays.In one census record he is listed with a J instead of a T.
