Hi Angie: That Sarah Boone as mother of Hannah was a typo. You are quite right, Lydia DeLong was her mother. The name 'Cake' is the name our ancestors arrived in the U.S.A. under. I can find no record of 'Kaake' prior to 1850. When they arrived in Canada in 1796, it mysteriously became 'Kaake' The origins of 'Kaake' are Danish. (Isn't the web wonderful? You can find out all sorts of stuff.) I would imagine that when they came into Canada, the person at the border or wherever was Danish and so the name got translated into Danish and has remained forever since. Although there are a lot of Cake's in the London, Ontario area who are direct descendants of Jonas. Some of Jonas' descendants decided for whatever reason to go with Cake and some with Kaake and there's even one son who spelled his name Kake. I have run across the records you mentioned in my research, much of it conducted at the OGS Library in North York, Ontario. By the way, I have Zebra also spelled Sabrah. Isn't it fun trying to sort out the spelling? Of course, since many of our descendants couldn't read or write prior to about 1850, it's understandable as they had to depend on those who could, many of whom would be from different parts of the world. I always though our name was Pennsylvania Dutch until I met up with a distant cousin doing the same research and found out otherwise. Where do you make your home Angie? If there is anything more I can help you with, please let me know? I intend to try concentrating now on Charles William as I have remain stumped at 1796 for a long time. I have run across one name for his wife 'Appolonia'. Sound native doesn't it? Keep in touch Cheers Noreen Notify Administrator about this message?
