Hello, I'm a Kaczmarek, but part of the family started using "Root" instead of Kaczmarek for some reasons unknown. We've heard various stories about why the family changed the name... One was about a spy, another was because because someone couldn't get a job with an ethnic last name. I'm Charles H. Root, III. My father was Charles H. K. Root, II (K. was for Kaczmarek). His father was Charles H. Kaczmarek Root. His father was Harry Kaczmarek, but then used Root. Harry had many siblings... Gertrude Kacmarek (married a Dombrowski), Sister Mary Xavier, a Bernie (perhaps Bernard) and I'll try to track down the rest. Their father was a Frank or Francis Kaczmarek. If this rings a bell with anyone who knows Kaczmareks lore in the Buffalo NY area I'd love to hear from you. They were all East Side & St. Stans folks. My Kaczmareks were originally from Posner (?) I believe. In the meantime, I'll go through family records and get more names and dates. Thanks! Charles Notify Administrator about this message?
