Kallis - South Africa any information?
Posted by: Thomas Kallis Date: December 11, 2000 at 01:04:02

The furthest back we can trace our surname is to Joseph Gerrit Kallis about 1854.
Now whether he was born in South Africa or whether he emigrated from Europe with his parents is unknown.
He married Mary Ann Quinn about 1878.
The South Africa origins appear to be in the Western Cape - Simonstown/Oliphantsbosch.
It would appear that he or his father came from an Eastern European country.
Any information will be appreciated.
thanks
