Kempf/Kampf - Wuerttemberg to Michigan
Posted by: Brenda Boyce Date: February 21, 2002 at 21:41:42

My great grandfather was Christian Johann Kempf; his parents Christopher Martin Kampf & Anna Marie Kappis all born in Gechingen, Wuerr., Germany. Christopher & Anna info came from original church records I found in Marshall, Michigan, Lutheran Church. Handwriting is very clear & spelling is specific. The "a" in Kampf had an umloud (forgive the misspelling). All later generations spelled the surname with an "e". My mother's maiden name was Kempf. I recently switched to searching in Germany using the other spelling & have been making some inroads. I think this family may have originally immigrated to Washtenaw county, Michigan. Christian married Barbara Christina Zahn of Lodi Township. I can find no connection to the Kempf family of Chelsea & Ann Arbor; they are from a different part of Germany.
