I think there are several variations of the name due to census takers misspellings. I found an Augustus Kemp in NY and my belief is that it probably was really Kempf.
I am related to an Augustus Kempf, from West Lyden, NY (in this country) who was married to an E.L. Muller. They had a son named Edward Kempf. He had 7 children: Mary; Jesse, my grandfather; Elmer Augustin; Edward; Carl; Otto; and, Dollie or Dolly. They lived in and around the Chicago area. Any of these sound familiar? If you are 5th generation Kempf, who were your progenitors? Please get in touch with me at: "fkempf@doitnow.com" and we can compare trees.
