From my research it is apparent that there are a number of spellings. The original is Kanzig with an umlaut over the "a". You will see in America Kenzig, Kaenzig, and Kanzigg among others.
I am still looking for info on my own family from Wiedlisbach Switzerland near the end of the 1800's who came to Saginaw, Michigan, then moved to Manitowoc Wisconsin and finally to Chicago. My father (b. 1921) is an only child and didn't leave me much to go on. We are seeking to find out a couple of answers: Why did people leave the little town of Wiedlisbach in the 1880's and 90's. Did my great-grandfather (Charles or "Karl" Kanzig) have brothers or sisters who stayed on Wiedlisbach, but are unknown to me?
