The information I have on the Kaplan family is a bit scanty. Abe Kaplan was the son of Max Kaplan and Gertrude (Gittel) Lustgarten. They were from Lithuania; they were buried in the Anshe Kanesses Israel section of Waldheim Cemetery. Max (Mordecai) Kaplan was the son of the rabbi, Abraham Kaplan. Although the story in the family is that Rabbi Abraham was well known (in fact, my father-in-law is named after him) I am unable to find any information about him. Abe Kaplan married in 1889 in Chicago; he was a peddler and apparently never had a great deal of money. I have no record of a Levine family connection but who knows? I suspect he might be of the previous generation however (birthday 1867. Of Dora Stone Kaplan I only know that she married Abe Kaplan.
