Well, I don't know if we might be related or not but I have written a fair amount about my Grandfather, Max, from the Ukraine. I believe he was born in Radmissl, then ran away at age 11 to the outskirts of Kiev, to avoid becoming a tinner (roofer). If you would like to know more, I'd love to share. Does any of this do anything like ring any bells? He had a brother, Morris and a sister, Tanta Malka and he started a fruit and veggie wagon business that turned into a larger business called United fruit and produce. His father died when he was 5 and he became a parentified child to say the least. He married his cousin after escaping the army in the middle of the night when he learned that because he was Jewish he was denied schooling there. YadaYada. Hoping this makes some connections.
