Dear Patricia,

I think you should come to Poland to visit your ancestral place. If you travel by car from Olsztyn (the Masurian Lakes District) to Suwalki (via Elk and Olecko) the first bigger sign to greet you just before you enter the city (population close to one hundred K) will be "Karp" - the name of the proud owner of the biggest gas station around. I wouldn't be at all surprised were his family related to yours. Another Karp in Suwalki has a bookshop. There is many more of Karps in the belt stretching from Lomza to Minsk in nowadays Bielorussia (which includes also Suwalki and Grajewo).

And, BTW, with the data you have on hand it shouldn't be difficult to get your family's history documented.

Provided of course that the archive documents are in existence. I think in Suwalki there is a fair chance that they are.

Best regards,

Artur Karp
