I'm not sure if there is a connection. Probably no way to tell for sure since we don't know other siblings for sure. Anyway, my great grandfather Theodore Xavier Karschnia was born in 1875 in Putzig which is now in Poland. He married Martha Huth from Danzig, which is where I understand they were living. While living in Danzig which is Gdansk today, they had my grandfather Paul Theodore in 1900, George in 1901, and Gertrude in 1902. After overhearing military officers talking about the approach of a massive war, my great grandparents wanted to get out and head to America. Theodore came first on June of 1906 and Martha and the children followed in October of 1906 where they settled in the St. Paul, MN area. Of course the oncoming war didn't happen for another 8 years with the start of World War I. I guessing that because my granfather feared that there would be discrimination against them and this large war that was coming caused by the Germans my grandfather banned them speaking German even in the house. The only one who was allowed to speak German was Gertrude to her mother because my great grandmother didn't get out and about to practice her English as much. As a result, I think our German heritage was cut out of the picture. They had four other children that were born here in the US. John was born in 1910 and died at the age of 10 from diptheria Walter was born 1912 and fought for USA during World War II where he made the ultimate sacrifice dying on his 32nd birthday while in Anzio, Italy. Alfred and Albert were twins born in 1914 but didn't survive through infancy. My grandfather Paul married Catherine "Kitty" Devine in 1925. They were childhood friends and eventually sweethearts. They had 5 children. Brian, Paul, Mary, John and my mother Kathleen. I wish I knew more about their life in Prussia. I don't know about any of their families. If anyone can make the connection, I would love to learn more.
