Owen, I saw your post about the DNA project for Kasers and have some interesting information: I recently found out through the National Geographic Genome Project and a male Kaser relative that my Great-great grandfather Rudolf Kaser, and all his direct male descendants, carry the Y chromosome R2. He was from Zurich, Switzerland, married to Anna Muster from Oberflachs, Switzerland and migrated with his family to America in the 1800's eventually settling in Ohio. He was reportedly a wagon maker. This genetic discovery was a big surprise to our family because the R2 Y chromosome is extremely rare outside of India except among the Sinti German "gypsies" of Europe who carry this gene at a frequency of around 53%. I understand that the Swiss gypsies are mix of German and Sinti (Gypsy)blood and are called the Jenisch. They are also called the "blonde gypsies." They appear to be genetically different from, yet related through linguistic similarities, to the "Rom" or Romanian Gypsies. Are you aware of any Gypsy, Sinti or Jenisch heritage in the Kaser family? Have you done the DNA test? If so, what were the results? Notify Administrator about this message?
