My great-grandfather was Frederick Daniel Kaser, born in Berne Canton, Switzerland, Feb 1849. He came to the US in 1867-1869. He married Bertha Brunner in Indiana 1876. They moved to Oregon in 1882. He had a sister (born in Switzerland) named Katarina (or Katherina, or...) who was married (in Switzerland) to a Mr. Bigler. She later came to the US (by herself, apparently) and ended up in Oregon. She got sick, and died in 1886.
I BELIEVE that I've tracked down their family in the Kleindietwil-Rorhbach area of Switzerland, but am not yet positive.
IF...IF...the family I've tracked down IS their's, then they also had two brothers who brought their familys to the US: a brother Johannes (born March 1840), and a brother Jakob (born Jan 1852). Johannes married Anna Barbara Maurer in 1866 and had three children in Switzerland: Friedrich (1866), Rosa (1868), and Anna (1876). According to the Swiss records, this family emigrated to North America in 1880. Jakob married Rosetta Vallspurger in 1874 and had three children in Switzerland: Johann Friedrich (1874), Rosa Elisa (1877), and Rudolf (1878). According to the Swiss records: "This whole family was declared by the Government, as from 13 February 1897, to no longer have the rights of Citizenship in the community of Kleindietwil and Canton Berne. They live in Geneva, Adams County, State of Indiana, United States of North America."
If anyone recognizes any of the above, please let me know. We're going to be travelling to South Bend Indiana to attend a big Kaser family reunion there soon. We have no reason to believe that we're related to any of "those" Kasers, but we do have other family in the area, and our great-grandparents lived in the Bluffton area for a few years.
