My g-gf Fred KASTEN (b 1854) was born in Vor
Pommern to Carl KASTEN and Wilhelmine MAHNKE. He emigrated to the US in 1876 and
settled in Milwaukee, WI where he married Wilhelmina MASSMANN (b 1860) in 1882. They
had 9 children and he worked as an iceman,
delivering ice with a horse and wagon. He
died in 1898 at the age of 44 of tetanus.

Carl KASTEN (b 1826) and Wilhelmine MAHNKE (b 1829) emigrated in 1883 with 5 of their
8 children: Wilhelmine (b 1862), Ludwig (b 1864), Bertha (b 1868) and Bernhard (b 1870),
and settled in Milwaukee, where their 3 oldest children (Fred, Johann [b 1856] and
Charles [b 1860]0 had settled earlier. Carl
died in 1889 and Wilhelmine in 1906. They
were Lutheran and are buried in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Milwaukee.
