Some info on Edson/Edison H. Kathan. Much of this has come from "A History of Stony Creek, NY-The First Hundred Years, 1771 through 1860" by David C. and Edythe Haskell, 1991. The Kathan Book also is a resource. Edson was my gggrandfather. He was born in 1811 to Charles and Sabra McFarland Kathan in Dummerston, Vt. In 1855 they lived next to the Grimes on Mud St. in Athol, NY. He married HARRIETT GILL (ca 1835). Between 1852 and 1860, Edson and Harriett were divorced. He married CAROLINE GRIMES RHODES. She was the daughter of Andrew Grimes and previously married to Richard Rhodes. Before 1860, Edson and Caroline moved to Johnsburg and are buried there. Harriett took her children to Beloit, Rock Co., WI and died there in 1884. Some of these dates may conflict a few years. In 1850, Athol, Warren Co., NY his age is given as 39 (hence 1811)but the Kathan book gives it as 1815. There is another Edson listed as son of David and Zaina Kathan age 2 in 1850 census. So far I have not seen this book but have a copy of some pages. Patty
