Thanks for responding! Sometimes the older messages seem to be unlinked from their authors!

Here is the bulk of what we have on JMK:

"He was married in December 1822 in Franklin County, Tennessee, to his cousin, Semiramus Shelton WOODS (b. ca. 1800-1810; d. 1841 Franklin Co., Tn.), grand-daughter of Archibald and Mourning (Shelton) Woods.
John Miller Kavanaugh resided mostly in Tennessee, except for a time following the death of his wife. When the 1860 federal census of Kentucky was taken, he was residing in the household of nephew Archibald Woods and wife Dorcas Alexander (Lackey) Kavanaugh in Garrard County; his children were with relatives.
During the “War Between the States”, John M. Kavanaugh joined the Confederate army, serving in Company D of the Tennesse 7th Infantry [Roster of Confederate Soldiers 1861-1865, Janet B. Hewett, ed, (1996), p. 62.]
In the census records of 1870, John was listed as a “retired farmer, aged 70, b. Ky,” residing in the household of James Alexander in Sumner County, Tennessee. In the same household were A. W. Miller, Laura and Dora Miller, Samuel and Susan Lackey, and James Alexander.
By 1875 John had removed to his daughter and son-in-law’s home in Texas [obit.; Madison County, Kentucky, Newspaper Death Notices, V. 3, pp. 401, 657].
Although the obituary referred to the daughter and son-in-law as Thomas and Margaret Barr of Erath County, Texas, the 1880 federal census of that county enumerated J. Cavanaugh as “father” aged 80, b. Ky, parents b. Va., in the household of Mathew and M. M. Carr, the birth year (1836) of M. M. Carr matching that of John’s daughter, Mourning Kavanaugh."

Charles did have a copy of the Miller book, and some of his initial information came from it. He and I have also tried to document the information through other sources, thus my work on the censuses. BTW, thank you for the full title of the book. I need that for the "further reading" portion of the book.

Here is a list of proposed children, as compiled from a combination of censuses and various genealogies including the Miller book.

We have only a little information on these children, mostly census verification.

i.       WILLIAM KAVANAUGH, (b. ca. 1824; named in the genealogy, [is this J. W. Cavanaugh?]
iii.       ELIZABETH KAVANAUGH, b. ca. 1827; residing in Lincoln Co., Tn.., in 1860.
iv.       MARY JANE KAVANAUGH, also b. ca. 1827.
v.       MARGARET KAVANAUGH , b. ca. 1830)
viii.       unidentified male b. ca. 1835-1840(ca. 1834?)
ix.        MOURNING KAVANAUGH , b. ca. 1836 m. Mathew CARR (b. ca. 1826 )
x.       unidentified female, b. ca. 1835-1840 (b. ca 1838/9?)
xi.       JOHN M. KAVANAUGH, b. ca. 1840.

Your copy of the tombstone inscription for Semiramus is very interesting and helpful. We "knew" she died in TN, but that's about it. Let's see, born in '05, married at 17, had 11 children in 19 years, the last one when she was perhaps 35 (and, that may be why she died -- do we know that?). And, that doesn't count the ones who died before or shortly after birth. What a life.

Also interesting that her name is not spelled the same way twice in any contemporary documentation I've seen. Think the Reverend and Mary could have picked a less difficult name <G>. The name Semira shows up later -- daughter of Philamon and Margaret J. Palmer. I believe Charles' has a picture of her as a child.

Since Lucy Ann is your ancestor, and I have nothing on her except that she was "residing with Thomas H. and Appoline Woods in 1850", could you supply her birth, marriage, death, and burial information?

We are not in a position this close to publication to be adding much, but I'd surely like to at least have that much information about the children.

By the way, Charles line from Wm Woods Kavanaugh - Eliz Miller to Philamon Kavanaugh - Margaret Palmer to Sophia Elizabeth Kavanaugh - Oliver Lewis Bear.

I relate to Charles through the Margaret Palmer line.
