Lewis Kaye

I am looking for an American Kaye family descended from Lewis Kaye born 1880 Leeds, Yorkshire, England. He was still in Leeds in the 1901 census but later went to America. Possibly around 1910 he wrote to my Kaye relatives in Leeds saying that he wished to return but did not have the fare for his passage - would they send him the money, which they did. He wrote back saying he would be on a certain ship (name unknown) docking at Liverpool on a certain date. My grandfather, James Hardwick Kaye, with his wife Eleanor and daughter Jessie (my mother)(and possibly other relatives) went to meet him, he was not on the boat, and they never heard from him again.

No doubt this is a fairly commonly repeated tale!

Lewis was the son of George Allen Kaye and Ann or Hannah Sykes. He was first cousin once removed to James H. Kaye above.

Would bepleased to hear from anyone with info.

David John True
