Thanks Allen

Joseph Kaye and his partner John (I think) Hunt opened the pub in Queanbeyan in about 1836. It was the first pub in the district. Joseph went on to marry Hunt's sister Eliza who is my great grandmother. They then left the pub and went farming in what was to become Canberra. The suggestion is that she was pregnant and that this may have led to the dissolution of the partnership. How time have changed!

It is very interesting you have found a map reference to a pub in Elmsall in 1837 connected to Hunt and Kaye. It seems highly likely that there is a connection, perhaps the data was out of date or it was run by their parents or they left the pub to siblings to run. Who knows?

Both my ready sources of names of Joseph's kids are old and sick at the moment so it might be some time before I track down that information.

Thanks for your help. This is the best info the family has had for a long time. I guess we are related, the question being how.
