Pronunciation of "Kaye"
Posted by: Kaye Ackermann Date: June 19, 1999 at 10:57:24

I am looking for information on the pronunciation of "Kaye" as a surname. In Louisville, KY, it is pronounced "Coy". I understand that the British pronunciation is "Kay", but that the Coy pronunciation comes from a family who originally immigrated from Scotland/Ireland to Germany, then to the U.S. (PA, OH, KY). I believe the original spelling may have been Kawe (two syllables). Any information appreciated. Please e-mail me direct. Thanks!
