I'm a part of the Key family too. My Grandmother was Gladys Lillian Key Chester. Her father was Charles "Charlie" Gaines Key, brother to William "Lawnie" Key/Keay. Their father was William Gaines Key. The story my Grandmother always told us about the difference in the Key/Keay spelling is that Wm Lawnie kept having trouble with his bank getting his account and another Key relative mixed up, so he legally changed his last name spelling to Keay. This solved the problem, but I'm sure it will confuses many genealogy researchers of the family later on. Of course, way on back in our line there were several different spellings of the family name due to the dialect of where they lived. I have a family tree on ancestry.com that goes back to Enland several hundred years. If you're interested in more family history, my e-mail is email@example.com I would love to get acquainted with you and your branch of the family and share our family heritage. Blessings, Lynn Bible
