Wenona,
Received your mail, good to hear from you again. I found a church record abt. Jesse and Elvira and my grandmother Edith Ann Childress Keel being members of this church, butcan't remember the name of church. I tried to find it, and never could, it was located ,I am sure near their
homes, which was below Gurley, near Little Cove Rd. I will try and find this and send it to you.The only proof that Priscilla was the dau. of a John WHITAKER, was the journal that Miss Ida WHITAKER had. We never could find a marriage record of Jesse KEEL and Priscilla WHITAKER.The story that is in the book, states that Priscilla was pregnent and the father a Mr. ROBINSON was on his way to marry her and fell of his horse and was killed. The child was Wherry WHITAKER,Jesse and Priscilla raised him ,but don't think he and Jesse got along too well. Some of the ROBINSON family also came to Alabama so the story goes.As the book says, Priscilla died between 1860 and 1870, because she was not mentioned in Jesse's will probated in 1870.Maybe if you made a copy of the pagein the book, that the D.A.R. might accept it.
I don't know what else to suggest at this time, I know when I joined the S.A.R. on my STYLES Rev.War Veteran they took it as proof, but they may not be as strict as the D.A.R. Hope this helps some. Keep in touch.
