Keels Family Genealogy Forum
My brother, Tom, took you to the Keels family cemetary outside Greeleyville, SC (Mt. Hope). I finally found my information. Here's what I have. John Keels (b. 1756, d. 10/28/1829, buried, Keels Family Cemetary, Greeleyville, SC) married Mary Jane Tycer (b. 1777, d. May 11, 1825, buride, Keels Family Cenetary, Greeleyville, SC) on December 24, 1792. (Making her just 15 at the time, and he was 36.) I have seen a reference to his will, listing sons, James W. (Withers)(b. 9/20/1796, d. Oct 27, 1865), Robert F. (Francis) (b. before 1866), Richard L. (?), Peter R. and only daughter, Mary Maria (married A. C. McKnight). James Withers Keels married Elizabeth Mary McCauley (or Macauley) Copley (not Coppley; my sister has a sampler done by this woman, and it is spelled with one "p"). James W. is my great, great grandfather. He and his wife lived in the Keels family plantation home and they had six children: James Hamilton (b. 1/21/1833), Susan R. (buried in Keels cemetary), Theodore M., Mary (or "Emma"? -- I have seen it both ways, but think Emma correct) Olivia Keels (b. Nov 7, 1823; d. May 21, 1845 and married to William M. Campbell), Elizabeth Alvena Keels (b. Feb. 29, 1840; d. April 17, 1921 -- I suspect she never married, for she is buried next to her parents in a small plot outside Greeleyville), and my Great-grandmother (the youngest, I think), Mary Macauley Keels (b. May 18, 1847; d. April 29, 1931, married Robert Soule Brunson, Sr., Jan 31, 1878). By the way, I just checked the family Bible from this woman's generation. She spelled "Macauley" with an "a," and my greatgrandmother seems to have spelled it "McCauley." That's what I know. What I'd like to know is: Have you (or anyone else) discovered John Keels' parents? I have seen a will for Isaac Keels, and this lists a John as a son. But I think Isaac Keels (Sr.) might have been John Keels' brother. And maybe their father was also a John Keels? Lived where? Married to whom? Came from where?
Thanks. If you get this, I'd love to know what you know about John Keels' descendents.
