Hi Carl,
I am writing this from school so my records are at home. My info on John and Judith Keels came from the SC Dept. of Archives. I have the reference at home. I believe the John who was granted 400 acres in 1762 would have had to be born before 1742. He would have only been 20 in 1762 yet land was granted based on the people in the household. I forget how land was divided out but 400 acres would indicate a family of several people (or slaves). Where did you hear that this John Keels was from England. I've heard that there is a reference to some Keels in early VA but I've never seen any proof. I believe the John who was in SC with land in the 1760's was the father of John, Daniel, Isaac and maybe others.
