Robert KEEN, 1780-1837, James City, VA - FENTON, COWLES
Posted by: Tom Fenton (ID *****4461) Date: May 21, 2010 at 04:39:42
  of 1801

I am trying to determine if Robert Keen might be my 3rd Great Grandfather. According to 1830 census in James City County, VA, he would have been born 1780-1790. He had no wife or children with him in that census. According to land tax records he had 100 acres in James City in 1837 but in 1838, 80 of those acres went to my great grandfather and 20 acres to Esther/Easter COWLES. My great grandfather was Benjamin Walker Fenton and was only about 5 years old at the time but held that land in fee simple until he sold it when he was 21. Was Robert his grandfather? His mother Martha also died in 1837 and he was her only child. Was Robert Martha's father?

Anyone else looking at the Keen family in Eastern VA in this time period?
