In Reply to: Andrew J. Keenan, [1819-1907], Cabell County, West Virginia, Obituary by F. Keenan of 2238

It seems likely that the Ellen (Keenan) Seastruck, mentioned in the obituary for Andrew J. Keenan, was the daughter of Andrew's son Sanford Cornelius Keenan and his wife, Rosetta Flowers. Ellen H. Keenan was born about 1879. Her husband with the surname SEASTRUCK has not been identified. Assistance is requested with respect thereto.

Mrs. P. C. (his middle initial was actually the letter "H.") Hoffman, was Andrew J. Keenan's daughter and NOT his sister. She was Sarah Ellen Keenan, born 18 March 1856 (tombstone) in Guyandotte, Cabell County, Virginia (now West Virginia). She died July 3, 1936 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, and was buried in Wilmore Cemetery, Wilmore, Jessamine Co., Kentucky. She married the Rev. Paul H. Hoffman on 27 Jun 1876 in Cabell Co., West Virginia. Paul Hoffman was born c 1823 (1910 census) in Virginia and died in 1910 at Walton, Kentucky. (Source: Find a Grave.)

Sarah Ellen (Keenan) Hoffman was the daughter of Andrew J. Keenan and his second wife, Sarah A. Scott. Andrew and Sarah were married 31 Jul. 1850, Cabell County, VA (now WV).

Rev. Paul Hoffman and Sarah Ellen (Keenan) Hoffman had one adopted son, George W. Hoffman, born c 1887 in Cabell Co., WV. (See 1900 census). He died in 1971. He also had been a Methodist minister and pastor of the Methodist Church at Pleasureville, Kentucky. (See obit. at Find A Grave, as taken from the Lexington, Ky. Herald Newspaper.) Sarah (Keenan) Hoffman's obituary appeared in the Nicholasville, Ky., News, Wed. July 15, 1936. Both Paul and Sarah Hoffman wer buried in Wilmore Cemetery, mentioned above. Paul Hoffman had been previously married to Penelope Darla in August of 1873 and they had no issue.

Mrs. Norma (Keenan) Rice, mentioned in the obituary for Andrew J.Keenan, was the daughter of Sanford C. Keenan and Rosetta Flowers. Norma was born about 1877 (census). She married a man with the surname RICE and his given name is unknown. Assistance is requested with respect thereto.

The Mrs. Robert Keenan, mentioned in the obituary for Andrew J. Keenan was probably Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (GARTON) Keenan. This assumption has not been documented. Her husband, Robert T. Keenan, born 12 Mar 1848, in Nicholas Co., VA (now WVA), died 29 Dec 1925. He was the son of Robert Keenan and Olive Boone VanBibber.(Source: Ancestry.com's WFT). Elizabeth married Robert Keenan 19 Feb 1875 in Putnam County, WV. Elizabeth (Garton) Keenan was the daughter of Zachariah Garton and Lucinda "Lucy" J. Priddy. She was born 18 Oct 1846, Kanahwa Co., VA (now WVA). Robert T. Keenan was buried in the Keenan Cemetery near Drennan, Nicholas County, West Virginia.

Information is requested from any reader who can identify a kinship between the Robert Keenan family mentioned herein and the family of Andrew J. Keenan.

Respectfully Submitted,

Francis Keenan, Ph.D. (No known connection to this lineage.)
