Hi everyone. Message #17 on this site by an Eleanor on March 27, 2000 mentioned the Henry Virtner Keep (1830-1883) Civil War Sutler tokens. A reply in November, 2001 by Dany Rothfelt (message #168) listed under Eleanors listing mentioned that Dany had a collection of H. V. Keep tokens.
I have seen Mr. Rothfelt's display at numismatic conventions here in the U.S. (midwest area) and it is a real honor to the Keep family. These have a fascinating story behind them and are filled with much history.
Dany is in need of biographical and photograph material about his family and about his sutler trade. He would definately like to obtain a photograph of Mr. Keep and some biographical material to add to his display.
Feel free to contact him if you can help. He has won some nice awards with this exhibit of H. V. Keep tokens and if you are anywhere near Michigan or Indiana he can let you know when a numismatic convention is happening so you can see this exhibit. If there is a Keep family publication, perhaps you could contact Dany and have him write an article about the Keep tokens for that publication. Best wishes, Frank. (I am a numismatic exhibits judge and have seen Dany's display of Keep tokens.)
